23.RESCUE DOG EXERCISE »LJUBLJANA 2023«
On Friday, May 12, 2023, the 23rd international exercise of rescue dogs began in Ljubljana.
22 teams of handlers and their dogs from Italy, Austria, Croatia, Germany and Slovenia took part in the exercise. DVRPS was represented by Petra Adamič with Tara, Viktoria Orosz with Ninja and Sue Red with Savana. Primož Bajt and Rina participated in the MOL team.
The teams had to complete 11 different tasks within 24 hours. They carried out 2 orientation hikes, 3 area searches, 4 rubble searches, providing first aid to victims and crossing Ljubljanica river with the help of a rope technique.
A total of 10 people had to be found at the worksites. 7 people or more had to be found for the exercise to be completed successfully. The DVRPS team successfully completed all tasks and found 7 people, thereby successfully completing all tasks.
The exercise was designed to mimic a real situation. The scenario of the exercise was a devastating earthquake in Ljubljana and its surroundings. Teams were responsible for their own accommodation and food at base camp. The schedule was not known in advance.
The weather was an additional difficulty this year, as it was raining. Nevertheless, the temperature conditions were more favorable for the dogs.
The exercise showed good cooperation from all participants.
